Your path to a Japanese licence

A typical direct-exam route, from preparation to your licence.

  1. Prepare

Study Japanese traffic rules and practise driving on the course.

  2. Provisional licence

Pass the required aptitude, written and practical tests for Karimen.

  3. Road practice

With your provisional licence, complete the required supervised road practice.

  4. Full-licence tests

Take the written and practical tests required for your full licence.

  5. Courses & licence

Complete any required ordinary-vehicle and first-aid courses, then the licence-issuance procedure.

The route and exemptions depend on your circumstances. Eligible residents of other prefectures may take a skill inspection in Saitama and apply for their licence in their home prefecture. We confirm the required documents, appointments and order of steps for your case.

Additional costs: Official application, examination, test-vehicle and licence-issuance fees, plus the Beginner first-aid course fee, are separate from the course price. We confirm any required ordinary-vehicle course and its cost before enrolment. Retakes, extra lessons and extra assistance can add to the total.

Your path to licence conversion

From document preparation to your Japanese licence.

  1. Prepare documents

Check eligibility and prepare your foreign licence, translation and supporting documents.

  2. Document screening

Once your documents are ready, attend the reserved screening at the licence centre.

  3. Aptitude & knowledge

After screening, complete the application, aptitude test and knowledge check where required.

  4. Driving skills

If required, book and take the practical driving check following the centre’s instructions.

  5. Japanese licence

After passing the required checks, complete the licence-issuance procedure.

Knowledge or practical checks may be exempt depending on the licence’s issuing country or region and other conditions. Eligibility, appointments and procedures are checked for your place of residence. Document screening and later tests may take place on separate days.

Additional costs: Official application and licence-issuance fees are separate from the course price. Repeat applications or checks and extra lessons or assistance may cost extra. The ¥85,000 plan includes the JAF translation fee.

Good to know

Your questions,
answered.

Are you a designated driving school?

We operate under the notified driving-school system (届出自動車教習所), rather than the Public Safety Commission-designated school system. We provide training and licensing-process support. Official tests, eligibility and any exemptions are determined by the licensing authority.

Which course should I choose?

The Beginner Course supports the direct-exam route, including people who already have driving experience. If you hold a foreign licence, ask about Kirikae so your conversion options can be checked first. Separate driving practice and online theory courses are also available.

Can I join if I live outside Saitama?

Yes, eligible students living outside Saitama can train here. The team confirms the required training documentation and procedure for your case. Lessons in Saitama do not automatically make every official test or licence-issuance step available there; the relevant authorities confirm the requirements.

How long will getting a licence take?

The Beginner course guide gives about two months as an initial reference, not a guaranteed completion time. Test availability, your progress and retakes can change the schedule. Passing or a specific licence date cannot be guaranteed.

How does the Beginner Course process work?

A typical direct-exam route is: (1) Karimen: pass the required provisional-licence tests. (2) Complete the required road practice. (3) Honmen: pass the required full-licence tests. (4) Complete the required courses and licence-issuance procedure. Unless exempt, ordinary-vehicle and first-aid courses are normally required after passing the practical test and before the licence is issued. The team will confirm the route and any accepted prior training for your case.

How many questions are in the written tests?

For the ordinary first-class licence route: Karimen has 50 questions and requires 45 points out of 50. Honmen has 95 questions: 90 text questions and 5 illustrated questions, worth 100 points in total. The passing score is 90 points, not simply 90 correct answers. These figures are for the Beginner route, not the foreign-licence conversion test.

Which Beginner plan do you recommend?

Standard is our most popular plan: ¥165,000 including tax, with 15 lessons of 45 minutes (11 hours 15 minutes total), online theory, licence-centre assistance and the listed training certificate. Basic offers 10 lessons for ¥135,000; Complete offers 20 for ¥195,000. The team confirms the assistance allowance and certificate conditions for your case. Choose according to your experience and support needs; additional practice costs ¥6,000 per 45-minute lesson.

Where do I take the official tests?

For this direct-exam route, official tests are conducted by the licensing authority, not by Dynamic Driving Lessons. In Saitama, the Driver's Licence Center is in Konosu. The appropriate venue and application procedure must be confirmed for your residence and circumstances. The practice venue in Saitama City is a different facility.

What language support is available?

Enquiries, driving instruction and licence-centre assistance may be available in English, Japanese, Portuguese or Spanish, depending on the service and staff availability. Online theory materials are available in English, Portuguese and Spanish; Japanese materials are not currently available. Tell the team your preferred language when booking.

How long is the promotional price valid?

The promotional period lasts 60 days from publication of the promotion. Confirm the dated promotion and its expiry with the team. Prices after that period have not yet been specified. Opening this page or sending a message does not restart the period.

What costs extra?

Additional driving lessons cost ¥6,000 per 45 minutes. Additional licence-centre assistance in Saitama costs ¥10,000 per visit; ask the team for the confirmed rate in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Ibaraki, Tochigi or Chiba. Official application and examination fees and the Beginner first-aid course fee are separate. Confirm the cost of any other required courses in your quote. Displayed prices include tax.

How can I pay? Are instalments available?

We accept cash and bank transfer. Instalments are available when specified in your course agreement. Until the fee is paid in full, practical lessons are released in proportion to the instalments actually paid. The team confirms your payment schedule and available lessons under the agreement.

How do I book lessons or arrange pickup?

Contact the team with your preferred dates, ideally at least one week ahead. Lessons and station pickup are arranged in advance and depend on availability; no particular weekday or weekend is guaranteed. Beginner training requires at least two consecutive 45-minute lessons per training day. An authorised attendant confirms bookings. We aim to answer as soon as possible during available service hours.

What are the cancellation and refund conditions?

The course agreement provides for non-refundable payments, except when and to the extent that mandatory Japanese law requires a refund. Contact the team about a change, cancellation or refund request so your circumstances can be reviewed under the agreement and applicable law. Confirm rescheduling and missed-lesson conditions before enrolling.

What if a licence-centre visit cannot proceed?

Under the agreement, scheduled assistance counts as used when the school attends or makes the service available, even if the procedure cannot proceed or is unsuccessful for reasons outside the school’s control. Contact the team about the specific circumstances and any further assistance needed. A visit does not guarantee a completed procedure or a successful test.
